I was hired to spend a Sunday evening capturing a nice couple enjoying an Our Picnic Retreat, — it’s a luxury picnic experience you can buy in Miami. We started with a few typical-posed couple picks, which came out quite well but I also wanted to make sure they enjoyed the experience and we weren’t just taking photos the whole time.
I did a mix of engaging with them, but mostly just tried to capture candid, voyeuristic, lifestyle shots. They were great and fun to photograph. It took a few minutes, but after the weirdness of “strange-man taking our photos wore off,” we both warmed up to each other and I was able to wander around and snapshots while they slipped into the charming little spell of the beach picnic.
During the shoot, I tried to use the picnic set pieces as a texture and frame the subjects. Other environmental objects like the bridge made for a nice symbol of connection. I particularly enjoyed the framing that the picnic tent provided, and was able to capture a couple of nice natural moments of them relaxed and really being together.
Hopefully, they have a handful of pictures they’ll cherish for a lifetime
