Here's some stuff I recommend:
Read Stuff — Yup. I like to read books, or New Yorker Magazines, and listen to the Audibles, or Seth Godin emails every morning! Also a well balanced dose of reading articles... (Like this one! Hey, I’m glad you’re here.)
Schedule Stuff — Having a calendar and scheduling stuff is a good disciple and a great way to create a self-motivating structure. I give myself time blocks to work on projects and put them in my iPhone calendar the night before.
Cook Stuff — I do my own cookin’ and I stock up with fresh fruits. Fruit is like having pretty plants around the house. But you don’t have to feed them, they feed you! It’s a little investment up front at the grocery store but it saves money each week. And it's probably healthier.
Gym Stuff — Working out is my favorite reason to get outta the house. Taking classes at the gym is even better because it’s a healthy social activity. Classes are also nice things to add to the calendar for my day — helps break it up in between assignments and writing projects.
Write Stuff — Writing is my thing. It’s my exercise for the mind. So that’s why I’m steady blogging, Yelping, journaling and writing up ideas. I just sent some good ones to the city of Miami for their recycling initiatives. But they don’t have any money either...
Educational Stuff — Take classes! Comedy is sorta like my career compass. So I've been taking online writing classes with The Second City. This keeps my skills even sharper and challenges me to learn and produce new work.
Apply For Stuff — This can get overwhelming and depressing. I know how it is. Keep ya chin up, it’s gonna work out. By all means, apply for jobs. Shoot for the moon. If you’re like me you’re probably trying to get your career back on track. But put a time limit on it. And instead of spending all day on LinkedIn scrambling, searching for roles, transforming into a lifeless zombie-eyed beast desperately filling out digital forms… Remember to breathe. And do other stuff.
