Creative Challenge: Film Daybreaker / by Johnny Michael

Trying to sharpen the video skills again. This time I set my sights on the Daybreaker at Club Space. Holy moly, I think I just vlogged.

What I did well

My goal was to work on camera movement, and tell a visual story. I feel like you get a good grasp of what Daybreaker is all about so I’ll pat myself on the back for that — you feel the good times and positive energy. It’s dope without the dope. It’s good times, and good for ya… I like to think of this type of piece as video journalism and there seems to be a ton of budding potential in harnessing this very powerful way to tell a story and share an experience. And lucky for me, and anyone with passion to do the same, the tools to do it have never been more accessible. I shot this on my iPhone, using a DJI Osmo Mobile 3 Gimbal and edited everything in iMovie.

What needs work

Adding the audio was a bit rough. I wrote a quick script and to record I simply used Quicktime on my MacBook Air to capture an audio recording. It sounds very amateur. So I’m thinking, in order to tell a really compelling narrative and make it seem like one smooth professional piece — I’ll need to invest in some sound equipment eventually. Nonetheless, it’s still pretty fun to watch.
