New Work: The Heart Of Science For Corteva / by Johnny Michael

BRINGING HUMANITY TO BIG AG

Check out this heart-warming series and meet Marlene, Ramu, Praveen and Ana — a handful of passionate people shaping the future of farming.

While touring behind the scenes of one of the world’s largest agriculture companies, you’ll see how these stories have the power to humanize the Corteva brand. It’s full of warmth, science and joy – all with a purpose to change the way you think and feel about big ag.

To host our long-form videos we created a new landing page on Corteva.com and a playful invitation to meet the scientists.

So what did I do? What did I learn?

What an adventure. For this project I traveled on location to both India and Brazil shoots — I got to tour science labs, interview scientists, hang out in corn fields, wear Indian clothes, eat curries, drink mates. The list goes on. Fun stuff aside, it was also a lot of work but tremendously rewarding and culturally enriching.

I strengthened my abilities and stretched new careers skills — from pitching the concept, writing and preparing scripts, directing, interviewing behind the camera, and managing a long and intense editing and storyline process (wasn’t easy with all these accents) — looking back, I’m really proud of the team I worked with and grateful for being a part of this opportunity. Meeting these scientists and teams was such a wonderful and worldly experience.

Along the way I even got to run around with my DJI Osmo Mobile Gimbal. Some of the shots from India and a good handful from the Brazil piece made for my cinematography debut.

To me this little story has just begun, these are just the pilots sparking a larger series. And already great news has poured in, they’ve been beloved by the Corteva team so much there’s a hype and demand to create more for the other regions across the globe. With so much more interesting science and passionate people to feature — I’m excited for the beat to go on.

And lastly, here’s a little friendly recap of fun footage from our shoots in Brazil and India.
