Creative Challenge: Film Daybreaker Again / by Johnny Michael

Why?
Because it’s so much fun to go and do. That’s why. A peaceful state park with yoga and a hype DJ, that’s my kind of party. While I’ve got to work on some focus and stabilization, I thought I did pretty well framing many of the shots. The DJI Osmo Mobile 3 is so light and nimble to run around crowds with, it’s the perfect toy for the gig. The other factor that felt like a challenge was being social behind the camera. I’ve learned my presence and disposition has a lot to do with the emotion and energy I’m going to capture through my lens. It took a few nerves to hurdle over, but once I got comfortable it got easier smiling at people, drawing energy from them and putting a camera really close to their face. There’s a great mix of different people and their expressions captured in this piece, and I’m happy about that. In a lot of ways it’s how I saw the event unfold through my eyes and the fun people I got to connect with that day. I also am starting to realize when it’s too late to film. I made the call to stop filming when the clips started chattering with heavy noise and just enjoyed the event — dance moves ensued.
