It took me over three years to make this post. When I started filming Hi’s I didn’t even know how to focus my camera, I wanted a way to force myself to create and figure out how to film stuff to get better. I was pretty clueless on how to edit things and yet I still feel like I’ve got loads to learn. More match cuts would make it tighter, I could wear more red shirts to keep consistency, I need to learn Adobe Premier, lighting could be better, I should do something on rollerblades — and my posture is as upright as a little old Italian cleaning lady. Maybe a tad overly self-critical but I know there’s room to grow.
Things I like
4 Non Blondes - What’s Up? as a song choice is perfect, the energy feels alright and the wrap up with a hot dog chomp is a nice touch. The timing of digital Hi’s in a socially distant culture is very relevant, I think it resonates well with people too. Edits like these are sort of the whole plan from the get-go, a 3-hour clip of a thousand locations is something to behold, but short energy-packed content could be really fun to watch and hopefully make people smile. See below, for a little Hi-Light reel.
