Making a Plant Based Burger / by Johnny Michael

Making burgers like my mom taught me, just without all that murdered cow meat. I love the idea and forward-thinking ideas behind plant-based meat — what’s even better is how this stuff tastes. I’ve tried both Beyond Meat and Impossible and in my humble opinion I prefer the Impossible texture and flavor just a bit more. Check out below for a “Vegan-man approved” and easy way to jazz up a plant-based burger.

Recipe

1. Make the meat
In a bowl mix Impossible burger with red onion, chives, garlic, parsley, breadcrumbs, and parmesan. Mix it up.

2. Cool it
Let the meat mix chill in the fridge. This makes it easier to work with.

3. Build those patties
Form the patties. You can use a small dish to get a consistent size.

4. Fry it up
Cook the burger on both sides, melt that cheese on top if you’ve got it, and brown those buns.

5. Assemble
Craft the burger. Top with avocado, tomato, and whatever else you fancy.

6. Eat
Take a bite, baby!

Ingredient list:

Instead of choosing dead cow meat, I chose ground up and mutilated plants. Both are full of protein and delicious, but one poses a really big issue when it comes to long-term sustainability. Plant-based food is exciting and fun to experiment with. Plus, the brick of meat option really takes the plant-based meat game to a new level offering all sorts of creative flexibility and substitutions in the kitchen. So I wanted to share how easy it was and bring in a Vegan friend to taste (and approve) the creation. And yes, I told him about the parmesan cheese. He survived.

Creatively, things went ok. I added in a new table and table cloth which makes for a lot fewer camera and angle changes. But my table was wobbly and created some unprofessional shakiness throughout the video. It’s kinda janky to watch. (Apologies for that.) I also need to focus on directing people a bit more. While this came out more than ok. I need to gain a little more zen and experience to pull the best stuff from others in front of the camera. All notes for next time. Below is the storyboard in light blue pencil drawings and a low-quality scan. Enjoy.
