Drawing Practice: Completing Drawing On The Right Side of The Brain / by Johnny Michael

Learning to draw is like learning to read. It’s a skill. And having that growth mindset is key. Not enough people seem to understand it this way. Drawing should be taught, just as learning to write. And I’d be all for adding that into the school system. Not only a healthy hobby it’s a skillful and important way to communicate the visions and ideas in one’s head to another.

Drawing On The Right Side Of The Brain by Betty Edwards takes you on a journey to a deeper level, beyond the foundations of drawing and into the fundamental philosophies about visual communication and some ideas about how our brain operates between two modes and sides.

It taught me a ton about the practice of drawing. Plus, at its core, it’s about how to solve complex problems and create solutions with real value for people. It’s also about seeing and observing. A way of looking at the world, the light, and the movement of the figures. Then seeing how to draw them. Seeing and drawing is yet another way to embrace the magic of the present moment. This theme appears in so many paths and it again comes down to the awe that occurs when you’re aware.

While it took me over a year to get through this book and work through the exercises I gradually improved my insights, drawing practice and understanding of my creative abilities. I recco this for anyone in the creative field or with a passion to communicate visually.
