I’m home for the summer. “Home” as in the place where I grew up. The place where my parents live. And not the other place where I live most of the year and if I call it “Home” I’ll be corrected by my mother about where my “Home” is. (Smile. Breath.) it’s nice to be home.
While here, we took a little family gander up north to the Petoskey area. We played golf, we ate Kilwin’s ice cream, made the trek to Cross Village for Polish food and curious looks at wacky wood furniture at Leg’s Inn. We spent money on leisure activities like wealthy people. The people were polite, the weather was sometimes meh, but mostly pleasant. It was so much Michigan fun. (But also a little exhausting). My brother and I played some golf and here’s a little video to recap and seal in the memories.
Around Harbor Springs and the Inn at Bay Harbor, I got the itch to wave at the camera. It’s just so darn scenic and lovely. So here’s Hi From Northern Michigan and the charming towns along the magnificent Little Traverse Bay of Lake Michigan. It’s so delightful and peaceful, I almost feel bad about creating a video. It feels as if I’m giving away its secret, promoting more tourism and traffic. It’s just perfect as is and I hope it doesn’t change too much. I guess they’ll just have to keep raising the prices so people can’t afford to live there… I’m sorry, Local Folk, but it’s too lovely not to capture.
Such a picturesque place calls from some picture taking. Here are some photos I capture of The Inn at Bay Harbor. The colors here just pop out of the real world. The green grass, the blue lakes and skies and the clean white building with a prominent red roof. It just feels like something out of a storybook. Somewhere in between the tension and joy of family time, I find it healthy to make time to go for walks and create. Whether it’s taking photos, having fun making golf videos, or waving at a camera on a tripod — these things help me cement the moments and good times we had. Somehow capturing snippets and slices of it lets me look back and turns the memories a little sweeter.
